A channel nut, also known as a spring channel, is used for tightening and locking applications across a wide range of channel support systems. It has a narrow rectangular base and has grooves along its edge with small gripping teeth within the grooves. Through the center of the nuts, there is a threaded hole. The plain channel nuts consist of a tapped hole in the middle. Furthermore, spring channel nuts also consist of a small spring attached to the lower side of the tapped hole. Channel nuts are convenient metal fixings effectively used with slotted and plain Unistrut channel nuts and metal channel support systems. In addition, the product is available in either galvanized steel or stainless steel.

Key Features of Channel Nuts

The bespoke product carries unique features, including:

  • Material – Made from mild steel.
  • Thickness- Available as an 8mm thick nut.
  • Plating- Bright Zinc Plated (BZP).
  • Dimensions – Come with varied dimensions, including 7.8 mm height, 35 mm length, and 19 mm width.
  • Package Options – 100 per Box
  • Compatibility – Compatible with all types of Unistrut Channel

How To Use Strut Channel Nuts?

Channel nuts are embedded lengthways into the focal box of the metal struts. Turning the nut 90° adjusts the grasping teeth to the inside collapsed edges of the struts. Whenever a strung nut or fastener is presented and fixed, the grasping teeth nibble into the edge of the channel, getting it set up.

Channel Nut Materials

These extremely strong nuts are constructed from a range of sturdy and durable materials, including:

  • Stainless Steel – The channel nuts made from stainless steel have high gripping strength and are highly proficient for strut channels.
  • Zinc Plated – The channel nuts plated with zinc are produced economically to protect surfaces from minor wear and tear.
  • Hot Dipped Galvanized – These channel or spring nuts are immersed in molten zinc, which provides double protection against corrosion.

Channel Nut Shapes

Channel steel nuts can be found in the following shapes.

  • J-Type – These are designed to fasten easily to the edges of sheet metal.
  • U-Type – These nuts secure themselves by snapping onto the edges of the surface.
  • Rectangular – These channel nuts provide the right tension to reduce potential harm to the surface and remove the need for lock washers.
  • Flat – These channel nuts are the most common and used in many applications.

Channel Nut Types

Channel steel nuts are classified into plain, long, and short spring channel nuts.

  • Plain Channel Nuts – These nuts do not feature any attached spring and are compatible with all Unistrut channel types.
  • Long Spring Channel Nuts – ideal for 41 mm deep channels, these nuts are rotated across 90º to fit their toothed grooves against the channel once inserted using the channel’s open side.
  • Short Spring Channel Nuts – Similar to long spring nuts, short spring channel nuts suit both slotted and plain (41 x 21) channels with similar rotation and insertion mechanisms.

Applications of Strut Channel Nuts

Strut channel nuts are typically used to:

  • Install electrical and mechanical pipe brackets.
  • Secure Fittings,
  • Electrical Panels, and
  • Pipe Clamps within a range of channels.
